Genius to speak at The University of Akron

Eve Troutt Powell

Did you know there is actually a Genius Award?

The MacArthur Foundation awards a $500,000 prize, no-strings-attached, to support a lifetime of research. Winner Eve Troutt Powell from the University of Pennsylvania will be the keynote speaker for Women’s History Month at the University of Akron.

A graduate of Harvard University, she will present in the Martin University Center on March 4, 2009, at 6 p.m. on “Women, Their Slave Mothers and Their Slaves: Historical Perspectives on Slavery in 19th Century Egypt.”

An interesting article on this incredible woman can be found here. A complete list of Women’s History Month activities at The University of Akron can be found on our Women’s Studies Program Web site and on this blog’s Events page.
