She was a strong, capable woman who was on equal terms with her husband/other male characters, but didn't belittle men or have a spouse who was childlike, and who raised her daughters to be strong and independent. It's on basic TV where I live and I'm really enjoying watching it. I don't know that there's any other TV family as realistic and human as theirs.
